You're a Calvinist, Right? →
jamescabbagechen:
I’m Reformed in my theology. At this point in my Christian life it is the most accurate and faithful lens that I have in casting my gaze upon the God who is. However, what perplexes me is how often other theological viewpoints are slandered against. This is particularly the case with many young, enthusiastic Calvinists who crack jokes at Arminianism while not representing it...

“Preach the gospel at all times; when necessary, use words.”
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have...

On Controversy: Part 2 →

Engaging our Opponent
If we act in a wrong spirit, we shall bring little glory to God, do little good to our fellow creatures, and procure neither honor nor comfort to ourselves. ~ John Newton
When we engage people in discussion and rebuke, or any other facet of our life for that matter, the primary motivation should be for the glory of God (Romans 12:1-2, 1 Corinthians 10:31,...

Someone is Wrong on the Internet →
“Internet controversy gives us the liberty to play theological video games. That is, it is vicarious, faux drama, exciting enough to keep us tapping away at our keyboards but not so exciting that we lose sleep. We read an attack site (discernment blog, as they like to call themselves), and find that the kingdom is crumbling because Joel Osteen’s book is being carried in some LifeWay store...
God is holy, crap is not. →
I don’t care if it’s just an expression. To be holy is to be perfect, and God alone is holy. You mock His character and righteous nature when you say that anything other than Him is holy. It’s His very righteousness that keeps us alive. God alone is holy. People’s saying “holy crap”, or anything else like that, upsets me way more than taboo “curse words” do.
Just, think before you speak.
And the...

Soli Deo Gloria: On Controversy: Part 1 →
This post is an appreciation of the cover story to the May 2012 issue of Tabletalk Magazine by Ligonier Ministries.
Controversy exists because God’s truth exists in a world of lies. ~ Burk Parsons
John Newton wrote an article titled “On Controversy” in 1771 in response to the debates that were occurring between Calvinists and Arminians. In the article he set forth three rules to consider when...

I decided to reply to this article in a different way. I decided to answer it as if I were answering his questions.
1. I can not promise that I love Jesus perfectly, nor can I promise that I ever will. The law to love Jesus is a hard one and a gate that is narrow for a sinner like me. Only the…

Proverbs 17:9 ~ Gossip hurts. Slander cuts deep. Proverbs are not meant to be hard and fast rules, but principles that are sources of wisdom and understanding. And while it may be beneficial to inform another person about an offense, more often than not it becomes an excuse to criticise someone behind their backs and spread discord. However the one who covers an offense seeks...
