Gossiping

This is just ridiculous. I was checking my mail on yahoo and this article came up called  ”How Gossiping is Good for You.”  When I saw that, my heart sank. I am incredibly disappointed (not at all surprised) with this secular perspective. This is ridiculous and we shouldn’t use stuff like this as a loophole to sin and make ourselves feel better. When has gossip edified, built up, encouraged, and glorified God? Talking about someone behind their back never bears fruit. When has talking  behind someone labeled as “good”? Just because there are “scientific” experiments doesn’t mean we should accept it. The world will always try to justify sin. 1 John 3:7 commands us to “let no one deceive you.”

The article says,“In fact, gossiping appears to be a normal, natural part of human nature. Frank McAndrew, a psychology professor at Knox College, has suggested that it should be viewed as a social skill rather than a character flaw, because it’s only a problem when not done well.” The writer then said that it was good because “it serves the social interests of the group.” No, that’s called being selfish and sinful.

Let’s see what the Word of God says:

Our sin nature wants to gossip and tear people done and find out what’s going on instead of asking the person face to face. (Romans 1:29-32)

  • Gossip hurts people (Proverbs 18:8)
  • Gossip makes assumptions about people
  • Gossip is slanderous (Psalm 101:5)
  • Gossip is worthless and evil (Proverbs 16:27)
  • Gossip reveals selfish intent
  • Gossip is “saying things we ought not to (1 Timothy 5:12-13)
  • Gossip separates close friends (Proverbs 16:28)
  • Gossip betrays confidence (Proverbs 11:12-13)

The Bible continually labels this issue as “deceit, backbiting, malicious, slanderous, double-minded.”

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.- Ephesians 4:29

Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.- Proverbs 21:21

Brothers and sisters, do not slander one another.- James 4:11

You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people- Leviticus 19:16

God hates gossip. Loving God is obeying his commands and hate anything that goes against His character. (1 John 5:3)

I am grieved by this. Humanity is so totally depraved without Christ.
